Fr. Bender will celebrate Mass with us today. He will wear Green Vestments. He will pray with us, teach us something special during the Homily and consecrate the bread and wine for Holy Eucharist. Finally, he will dismiss us with a blessing.

Missionaries of the Poor in Jamaica. Mrs. McGinnis and Rachel will be going on a Mission trip to help the homeless, handicapped, and abandoned of Kingston Jamaica. There are children, adults and elderly.
Father Meluskey of our parish, died a couple years ago. He always wanted to send beautiful pictures of Jesus and Mary to the poor people. Before he died he gave me a large box of different note cards, Mass cards and Christmas card with pictures of Jesus and Mary on them. He wanted the Children of Saint Patrick Church to cut them out and put a piece of yarn on them so the poor people who live in Jamaica could hang them on their bed on in their small homes. These poor people have very little space and possessions. He thought that a small beautiful picture might be appreciated and be an honored picture of God’s Mercy.
I would like to ask you to help with this project by adding yarn to these pictures that have been cut out. I will take them to Jamaica when I leave in 2 weeks.

All are invited to this time of spiritual renewal and blessing for our parish. iMercy: The Divine Hotspot will be led by Father Bill Garrott, O.P. The iMercy missions aims to make more accessible the outpouring of grace hoped for by Pope Francis in his declaration of a Jubilee Year of Mercy. Each night’s topic is designed to draw parishioners more deeply into the reconciling love of the Holy Trinity through preaching and experiential signs of God’s merciful touch.
Last week we talked about the the garden of Eden. We read the story of creation, Adam and Eve and the temptation of Eve and Adam with the fruit. Because of the disobedience of Adam and Eve, they must die.
We will listen to the song “Adam, Adam Where are you?” In the song, it talks about the deception of the Devil and how God still calls Adam back to Himself. God still searches for each one of us despite our sins. Because we have separated ourselves from God, (through sin), we can not hear Him very well.
God still talks to us:
through the Bible,
through prayer
through the sacraments and our church,
through other people
through our conscience

Reading the Bible:“Blest are We” grade 4 pp.18-19.
Because there is sin in the world, we live on earth and someday we will die. But God provides us a way to save ourselves/our souls. In the Old Testament, they sacrificed an animal or food on an altar for a person’s sins. In the New Testament, Jesus is our sacrifice on the cross. We also offer the ”sacrifice of the Mass” for the forgiveness of sins. What other sacraments give us forgiveness of sins?
“I saw a scroll in the right hand of the one who sat on the throne. It had writing on both sides and was sealed with seven seals. Then I saw a mighty angel who proclaimed in a loud voice, “Who is worthy to open the scroll and break its seals?” But no one in heaven or on earth or under the earth was able to open the scroll or to examine it. I shed many tears because no one was found worthy to open the scroll or to examine it.
Then I saw standing in the midst of the throne and the four living creatures and the elders, a Lamb that seemed to have been slain. He had seven horns and seven eyes; these are the [seven] spirits of God sent out into the whole world.

The catacomb are an underground Christian and/or Jewish cemetery consisting of a passage ways with recesses for tombs, as constructed outside of the ancient Rome. In the catacombs, the early Christians may have hid so that they would not be put in prison or killed for their faith in Christ. Pictures were painted in the catacombs of different bible stories of the Old and New Testaments. In the very Early Church Mass was celebrated in the catacombs on the tombs of the martyrs. Today we have an altar stone and a relic* that is placed in the altar to remind us of the church family that has passed (they have died but they are alive in heaven) and the humble church beginnings in the Catacombs.
*Relic: A relic is something connected with a saint or blessed, including a part of their body (e.g. hair or a piece of bone), their clothing, or an object that the person used or touched.
It is not the kind of relic or how big it is that is important, but rather the faith and prayer that the relic occasions. By the communion of saints, it is that person who is close to us, blessing and praying for us.
The veneration(to give honor and reverence) of relics is an ancient custom dating from the reverence shown at the graves of the martyrs even in the time of the apostles.(http://www.motherteresa.org/09_relics/relics.htm)
Why is the right hand of a bishop held in a particular manner when blessing?
It is a gesture of blessing.
The two upraised fingers signify the two natures of Our Lord: divine and human.
The three fingers that are ‘curved’ signify the Three Persons of the Blessed Trinity: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
It’s a statement of belief in two key elements of Catholic belief, Our Lord being human and divine in His nature, and Three Persons, One God in the Trinity,
