Advent and Christmas
Advent—a celebration of the three comings of Christ:
- History – Birth of Jesus 2007 years ago.
- Present – Mystery-
- In our families, in our church, in our teachers, etc.
- In Sacraments through the Holy Spirit: Eucharist, Reconciliation, Baptism, Confirmation, Anointing of the Sick, Matrimony and Holy Orders
- Future—Majesty- The second coming at the end of time as a King
(referenced in the Book of Revelations)
Jesus’ comings in history, mystery, and majesty!
Christmas
- Time to remember: Jesus is the promised Savior, He is the Light of the World!
We remember Jesus in the Christmas candles and Christmas lights.
- Time to believe: Jesus is the third person in the Trinity and he is God’s Son!
- Time to celebrate: Holy Birthday Party!
We watched part of the movie “Mary of Nazareth.” I think it gave a visual idea of what it really was like for Joseph and Mary. I narrated the movie as it progressed so that the students could put the events from the bible into context.
We stopped just as Joseph was searching for a place to stay in Bethlehem…

Moses and Passover
Start with Israelite becoming slaves, Moses is born

Moses and Passover
We will read about how Moses warned the Egyptians of God’s will to free the Hebrew Slaves. There were 10 Plagues that tormented the Egyptians.
We will learn about the Passover. The Lamb is the sacrifice for the Passover meal. The Passover meal allows the Jewish Hebrews to be free.
Jesus celebrated the last supper during the Feast of the Passover. We call Jesus the “Lamb of God.” Is Jesus the sacrifice for our sins? Does Jesus allow us to be free? Free from what?
During Mass we celebrate the Eucharist. The unleavened bread that is offered up. In the Mass there are many prayers and ceremonies that are from the Jewish Passover meal .

In class we will look at some Jewish Passover customs, games, Seder plate and Kiddush Cup-

Welcome to Religious Education with Mrs. McGinnis!

Mrs. McGinnis have been teaching CCD for 15 years. Most of that time I was teaching 4th grade. We have a lot of fun and we are able to work together to reinforce the teaching points.
We try to incorporate the church year holy days and seasons into our curriculum so I will use bible readings and reflections. I am very pleased to share our faith with your children. We look forward to a wonderful year.

I know I am a bit of an unconventional religious Education teacher. I try to share my faith, my songs and my stories to make this Catholic religion “real-life.”
We did a few crafts, practiced a puppet show, discussed deep questions of faith and morals.
I am honored to be your CCD teacher and you will be in my prayers. I hope you continue to grow in your faith. Don’t be afraid to call on God to guide and protect you.
