{"id":533,"date":"2015-09-30T01:18:26","date_gmt":"2015-09-30T05:18:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.hickorytown.com\/ccd4\/?p=533"},"modified":"2020-09-27T20:17:57","modified_gmt":"2020-09-28T00:17:57","slug":"stories-of-the-old-testament","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.gettysburghope.com\/ccd4\/2015\/09\/30\/stories-of-the-old-testament\/","title":{"rendered":"Stories of the Old Testament, Abraham, Issac, Jacob(Israel) and Joseph"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"entry-content cf\">\n<p>Last week we talked about Noah and the flood, Abram and Sarah and their son Issac.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>God made a covenant(a sacred promise) with Noah:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hickorytown.com\/ccd4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/rainbow-covenant.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-535\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hickorytown.com\/ccd4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/rainbow-covenant.jpg\" alt=\"rainbow-covenant\" width=\"600\" height=\"308\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.gettysburghope.com\/ccd4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/rainbow-covenant.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.gettysburghope.com\/ccd4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/rainbow-covenant-300x154.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.gettysburghope.com\/ccd4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/rainbow-covenant-500x256.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a>Genesis 9:15\u00a0 I will remember my covenant between me and you and every living creature\u2014every mortal being\u2014so that the waters will never again become a flood to destroy every mortal being.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>God made a covenant with Abram and changed his name to Abraham:\n<p><div id=\"attachment_537\" style=\"width: 377px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hickorytown.com\/ccd4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/AbrahamIsaac.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-537\" class=\"wp-image-537\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hickorytown.com\/ccd4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/AbrahamIsaac.jpg\" alt=\"AbrahamIsaac\" width=\"367\" height=\"453\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-537\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Abraham and Issac<\/p><\/div><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Genesis 17:5 No longer will you be called Abram; your name will be Abraham, for I am making you the father of a multitude of nations.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Genesis17:7 I will maintain my covenant between me and you and your descendants after you throughout the ages as an everlasting covenant, to be your God and the God of your descendants after you&#8230;. and I will be their God.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">&#8220;I will be your God if you will be my people&#8221;<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">God still makes that covenant with us today.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Abraham&#8217;s son, Issac married Rebbecca.\u00a0 The had two sons Esau and Jacob. Esau was a hunter and good cook, Jacob was a Shepherd of Sheep. Jacob inherited the land and rights of his father Isaac.<\/li>\n<li>Jacob, (also known as \u201cIsrael\u201d), had 12 sons. They would be the 12 tribes of the nation Israel.<a href=\"http:\/\/www.hickorytown.com\/ccd4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/12-Sons-of-Jacob.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-538\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hickorytown.com\/ccd4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/12-Sons-of-Jacob.jpg\" alt=\"12 Sons of Jacob\" width=\"514\" height=\"396\" \/><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah,\u00a0 Issachar, Zebulun, <\/em><em>Joseph, Benjamin, Dan, Asher <em><br \/>\n<\/em><\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Old Testament and the story of Joseph.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Joseph\u2019s brothers were jealous of him and did a horrible thing to Joseph.\u00a0 But, God used this misfortune to save the nation of Israel from starvation many years later.<\/p>\n<p>Here is a version of Joseph\u2019s story for children:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.topmarks.co.uk\/judaism\/joseph\/joseph.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">http:\/\/www.topmarks.co.uk\/judaism\/joseph\/joseph.htm<\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"entry-content cf\">\n<p>If you have access to the <em>\u201cJoseph King of Dreams\u201d by Dreamworks (DVD),<\/em> we will be playing parts of the movie this week.
